How to Find Someone in Thailand

There is no single method for finding someone in Thailand. The best approach depends on the person you are trying to locate and the information already available.

A case involving a Thai citizen may require a different approach from one involving a foreign national. Likewise, locating someone whose full name, photograph and previous address are known is very different from trying to trace a person using only limited or uncertain information.

We review the information available and determine what enquiries are practical before recommending the next step.

Finding a Thai Citizen

If you are trying to locate a Thai citizen, please provide their full name and as much identifying information as possible.

Additional information such as a photograph, previous address, telephone number, employment information, family connections or known locations may help with the enquiry.

The more complete the information is, the easier it is to assess whether a trace is likely to be viable.

Finding a Foreign National in Thailand

We also receive enquiries from clients trying to locate foreign nationals who may be living or travelling in Thailand.

Please tell us the person’s nationality, full name, approximate age and any information you have about where they may have stayed, worked or spent time in Thailand.

Previous hotels, condominiums, workplaces, social media activity, known associates and recent photographs may all be useful when assessing the case.

Why Are You Trying to Locate the Person?

We will usually ask why you are trying to find the person.

This is important because the purpose of the enquiry can affect how the case should be approached. Someone trying to reconnect with a family member may have very different information and objectives from a lawyer trying to locate a person for legal proceedings or a client attempting to establish the current whereabouts of someone who has disappeared from contact.

Tracing Someone You Have Lost Contact With

People lose contact for many reasons. A person may have moved, changed employment, stopped using an old telephone number or social media account, or simply chosen not to remain in contact.

If you have previously known the person in Thailand, old information can still be useful. Previous addresses, workplaces, telephone numbers, photographs and names of relatives or associates may all help when assessing possible avenues of enquiry.

Missing Family Members in Thailand

We can also assist where a family member has lost contact while in Thailand or where relatives are trying to establish someone’s current whereabouts.

When contacting us, please provide a recent photograph where possible, the person’s nationality, full name, last known location, the date they were last heard from and any information about where they were staying, travelling or working.

If there are urgent concerns for the person’s immediate safety, the appropriate authorities should also be contacted.

Locating Someone for Legal or Business Reasons

Tracing services can also be useful where a person needs to be located for legal, commercial or administrative reasons.

This may include locating somebody before process serving, establishing a current address or identifying a useful location where further enquiries can be made.

If the purpose of the trace is connected with legal proceedings or process serving, please explain this when requesting a quotation.

Local Enquiries and Site Visits

In some cases, database or remote enquiries may not be sufficient and local fieldwork may be required.

Where there is a useful last-known address, workplace or other location, we may be able to arrange local enquiries or a site visit to establish whether the person is still connected with that location or whether further information can be obtained.

The suitability and cost of fieldwork will depend on the location and circumstances of the case.

What Information Can Help With a Trace?

Even information that appears old or incomplete may be useful. When contacting us, include everything you reasonably believe could help identify or locate the person.

• Telephone numbers
• Social media profiles
• Current or previous employment
• Names of relatives or known associates

You should also explain which pieces of information are confirmed and which are assumptions or possibilities. This can be important when assessing whether a trace is viable.

Can You Guarantee That the Person Will Be Found?

No. It is not possible to guarantee that every person can be located.

The likelihood of success depends heavily on the accuracy and amount of information available, how recently the person was known to be in Thailand and whether there are useful avenues of enquiry.
